About Stern Consulting
Stern Consulting provides specialty analytic and consulting services for hospital systems, healthcare companies and
investors in the hospital and healthcare industries. The firm was first founded to advise hospital and healthcare systems
on issues of strategy, operations and Medicare compliance. Stern Consulting's clients have ranged from nationwide hospital
chains and major teaching institutions to small rural hospitals; the firm has served hospitals across the country including
two of the nation's five largest healthcare systems. Stern Consulting has performed business planning and market studies for
the nation's largest pharmaceutical company as well as the market-leading pharmacy benefits manager. The firm has also performed
market analyses for firms ranging from an early stage disease management company to a leading outsourcer of revenue cycle
management for large hospital systems. Selected healthcare clients are listed here. In more recent years (through membership in Gerson Lehrman Group's Council of Healthcare Advisors), it became clear that the firm's expertise in hospital strategy, operations and analysis could prove invaluable to investors

David M. C. Stern President
|
David Stern is the founder and president of Stern Consulting.
He has advised some of the pre-eminent companies in the healthcare industry, both as president of Stern Consulting and as
a consultant at other organizations. Prior to founding Stern Consulting, Mr. Stern spent six years advising hospitals
at APM, then the country's largest healthcare management consulting firm. After APM's incorporation into CSC Healthcare, Mr. Stern helped run CSC's healthcare informatics subsidiary. He also spent two years as a managing director with the Crescent Group, a healthcare analysis and litigation support firm. Mr. Stern counts
among his clients a wide range of healthcare practitioners and investors. His client list includes the nation’s largest
pharmaceutical company; the nation’s largest investment bank; the nation's largest pharmacy benefits manager; the nation’s
second largest publicly-traded hospital chain; and numerous other hospital systems, healthcare companies and institutional
investors. (See a client list here.) Previously, Mr. Stern served as marketing coordinator in
the medical products department of Canon's European headquarters, where he developed marketing strategy for a new healthcare information technology product. He also
worked as an executive search consultant at Technics in Management Transfer in Japan. He has served as a guest lecturer in fields ranging from management and healthcare economics to journalism ethics,
at NYU’s Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, Middlebury College and Vanderbilt University. He also contributed
to the textbook, Strategic Management for Nonprofit Organizations: Theory and Cases (Oster, 1995). He earned an MBA
from the Yale School of Management and a BA in economics from Yale College. In
addition Mr. Stern serves as chairman of the board of the Westchester Institute for Human Development, advisory board member of Renovation in Music Education, and board member of the local United Way. He has served on the board of the Edgemont Community Council, and he is active as a volunteer firefighter. He enjoys canoeing the wilderness of Alaska and Canada when he is not coaching local youth sports. He lives with his wife

Brian Williams
|
Brian Williams has over 25
years of experience in healthcare decision support. He manages Stern Consulting's healthcare data base and analysis functions.
Prior to joining Stern Consulting, he was Vice President of Net-Fast, Inc.—a web-based business intelligence firm using
multi-dimensional databases to provide online analytic capabilities to hospitals and healthcare organizations. Mr. Williams
designed and implemented client-specific solutions using combinations of proprietary and publicly available data.
Previously, Mr. Williams managed
the analytic staff for the Decision Technology group of CSC Healthcare. In this capacity he supported the information requirements
of individual hospitals as well as large, multi-institutional networks.
Mr. Williams also co-founded
and served as vice president of Utilization Management Associates, Inc. At UMA, he worked with healthcare plans and hospitals
in the U.S. and Canada
to improve efficiency and eliminate barriers to appropriate use of healthcare resources.
Mr. Williams earned an MBA with
concentration in healthcare management from Boston University
and a BA in political science from Holy Cross
College.
